ricketts launches ict association

The Minister for Industry, Tourism, Trade and Communication launched the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Association at the Holiday Inn in Suva today.

“Its role is to provide a greater momentum to our efforts in attracting more investment and assisting to develop the ICT industry in Fiji,” Mr Ricketts said.

Chairman of the Fiji Islands and Investment Bureau (FTIB) Mr Francis Narayan said this industry is considered to be one of the most competitive and dynamic industries in the world as has been experienced in Australia, Phillipines, India, Bangladesh and even here in Fiji.

He said that this came at a very timely occasion, as we have just recently seen the deregulation of telecommunication industry in Fiji.

“The establishment of the ICT Association in Fiji is crucial at this time when we are working together with stakeholders and the Government to lift our economic performance,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the Mr Ricketts, the Minister for Finance and National Planning Mr Mahendra Chaudhry together with the board members of the FTIB and the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority (FIRCA) officials were inspecting site of the proposed ICT Park at the Kalabo Tax Free Zone.

The launch was attended by senior government officials and representatives from the private sector.
